Democratic Republic of Vietnam Fakes and Fantasies
This section deals with Democratic Republic of Vietnam (DRVN) fake and fantasy material. This information is in preliminary form and will change. Information may not be entirely accurate or complete at this time as this is an ongoing research project. DRVN Fantasy Covers Comments for the following covers were made by the experts at Tap Chi Tem (Publishers of Tem magazine). These elderly gentlemen were involved in postal matters in the North during the late 1940s and early 1950s. General note: the paper used for the following covers was not available at the time they were supposedly created, and the size of the envelopes is a general indication of a fake/fantasy item. Democratic Republic of Vietnam Fantasy Cover 1
1. The overprint on the stamps is a fantasy 2. The star on the flag is incorrect 3. On independence day, everyone hid and did not make FDCs 4. Cancel was leftover in a warehouse, taken and backdated 5. Cancellations do not conform to UPU regulations (only one extra strike allowed) 6. Addressed in French (never would happen!) to relatives of party leaders. Democratic Republic of Vietnam Fantasy Cover 1a

1. Cover known to have been made in 1975, shipped overseas 2. Overprint is fantasy (a few trials exist, never used). Nge Khe used French Indo-china stamps after liberation. This P.O. is a branch located on a French plantation with two postal workers to service the workers of the plantation. There was no need for all of the so-called stamps, and no ability to print overprints. 3. The cachet is taken from a 1950s piece of paper money. 4. The slogan is from a Dec 19, 1946 event 5. Cancel states Interzone 2 (Lien Khu II). Nge Khe was in Interzone 3 (but not until 1946), never Interzone 2. There are other address and province errors. Democratic Republic of Vietnam Fantasy Cover 3
1. Overprint is a fantasy 2. The boxed slogan cancel was only used in Hanoi (never Quang Ngai) 3. Interzone 5 (LK V) did not use red flag Entire Contents ©1999-2021 Society of Indo-China Philatelists. All Rights Reserved - Site managed by Larry Fillion. |
